Packing List

Clothing

Cut down to the bare minimum when packing clothes. You will need to get used to wearing the same clothes for long periods of time. Or you can wash and dry clothes overnight in most places.

It is advisable to take:

  • t-shirt3 T-shirts ideally these should be fast drying so that they can easily be dried overnight.
  • longsleeve-shirt3 longsleeved shirt or polo shirt It is vital to have at least one long sleeved item of clothing for protection from mosquitoes and the sun/cold.
  • trousers2 pairs of trousers the most useful type are lightweight trousers with plenty of pockets OR TRACK PANTS. 1 pair of long-johns for use as pyjamus on cold nights.
  • shorts2 pairs of shorts for kayaking.
  • fleeceA good jacket/windbreaker is a MUST. This can be layered with other clothes to keep you warm. It can get pretty cold at night. A glove might be a good idea too.
  • sockIt is worth taking 3 sets of socks and disposable underwears for 15 days. For socks, you will have an opportunity to wash them while you are there so it is not worth taking up room bringing loads. Also bear in mind that anything you take that is white is not going to stay that colour for very long!
  • hiking-bootsBecause there is quite abit of walking, wear a seasoned pair of trek shoes.
  • sandalsA pair of sandals are essential. They have the advantage of being small and easy to pack and can be quite comfortable for most occasions.

Essentials

  • baseball-capBring along a cap.
  • water-bottlesWaterbottles or you can carry mineral water bottles which you can get there.
  • swiss-army-knifeSwiss army knife, the travellers best friend! Just make sure you don’t fly with it in your hand luggage.
  • toiletriesToiletries, you wont need much! Just take what you need to maintain hygiene or you can share. A tooth brush, toothpaste, facial wash, hair & body shampoo, skin moisturiser, and most importantly, a lip-balm
  • & wet tissues and your THERMOMETER.
  • first-aid-kitBasic personal medication eg. panadol, lomotil for diarrhoea, bauscopan for stomach cramps/gastroenteritis, dramamine for motion-sickness, plaster, medicated oil.
  • towels1 SMALL towel.
  • mosquito-repellentInsect repellent & topical medication for minor insect bites.
  • bin-bagSouvenirs for friends you will make, eg. a key-chain, school badge, note books, soft-toys & personal affects you can share with your friends there, eg. family photo, class photos, school magazines

  • hair-dryerDon’t take a hair dryer, these are big, bulky and most of you don't even comb! Why would you have the need of a hair dryer?
  • laptopDon’t take anything too valuable or sentimental.
  • kettleDon’t take anything that you wouldn’t use at home, why would you suddenly start using it when you went away?
