Day 1

We reported at MPFSC by 10 on the first day for our group visitation project and discussed our objective for the day. In our own pairs, we had to go from door-to-door for each of the 5 rental unit blocks (Blocks 15, 16, 51, 52, 53 Marine Terrace ) under the charge of the MPFSC to do a general survey of the famillies living there. We had to look out for their living conditions through asking a few questions to see how they were getting by in particular, to see if they had a stable income or maintained their flats well etc. Our focus was also to identify aged residents who were living alone and might be in need of assistance from the MPFSC. As such, we were to invite them to an excursion to the Singapore Zoo to include them in such community bonding activities.

Each pair went about with a list of units covering 4 floors and we had to fill the list up with our own observations of the occupants there, such as if they needed financial help or someone to counsel them. Of all the people we met, they varied in their living conditions widely. Those who were doing well were mostly Chinese or Malay families who kept their houses neat while there were also aged residents who lived alone and needed someone to talk to, of which we tried to invite to the excursion.

We managed to cover Block 16 in the morning and headed back to the MPFSC to have a short meeting on how each pair has done. After a lunch break till 1, we proceeded to cover Block 15 before ending the day after filling up the lists.
